چکیده

12 strains o f the geni Chlorella, Scenedesmus, Chlamydomonas, and Dunaliella were tested for their tolerance against the anionic detergent “L A S” (linear alkylbenzene sulfonate). Cellular parameters (cell titer and chlorophyll content) were monitored for 28 days after addition o f LAS (0 .0 1 —2 m M ) . A 100-fold difference in sensitivity toward LAS was detected for the algal strains analyzed. Electron microscopic investigations revealed that LAS-resistance is correlated with both, the presence of thick cell walls and sporopollenin layers. It is speculated that this structure acts as a protecting coat preventing the chemical attack of detergents on algal cells. An application for selecting algae by detergents is proposed.

Localization and Quantification of Callose in the Streptophyte Green Algae Zygnema and Klebsormidium: Correlation with Desiccation Tolerance

Freshwater green algae started to colonize terrestrial habitats about 460 million years ago, giving rise to the evolution of land plants. Today, several streptophyte green algae occur in aero-terrestrial habitats with unpredictable fluctuations in water availability, serving as ideal models for investigating desiccation tolerance. We tested the hypothesis that callose, a β-d-1,3-glucan, is inco...

Indigestible neutral detergent fibers: Relationship between forage fragility ‎and neutral detergent fibers digestibility in total mixed ration and some ‎feedstuffs in dairy cattle

Indigestible neutral detergent fibers (iNDF) accurately predict forage digestibility when measured in situ. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of rumen incubation times on the estimated concentrations of iNDF for four forages (alfalfa hay, corn silage, wheat straw and orchard grass), four concentrates (barley grain, soybean meal, beet pulp and wheat bran) and two ...

Effect of SiO2 Nanoparticles on Chlorophyll, Carotenoid and Growth of Green Micro-Algae Dunaliella salina

As a rapidly-evolving global technology, nanotechnology has presumably brought drastic changes to our lives in the past two decades using engineered nanoparticles, whose penetration into industrial and non-industrial wastewater requires examination of their probable effects in aquatic ecosystems. The main objective of this work is to study the toxicological and biological effects of nanomateria...

Quantitative (Chlorophyll-a) and qualitative (species composition) seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton in Lavan coastal waters (North of the Persian Gulf)

Phytoplankton species composition as well as amount of Chlorophyll-a and their relation to physico-chemical parameters were studied. The samples were collected monthly from October 1996 until September 1997 in two stations, i.e. Lavan and Douberkeh coastal waters. In this study, 65 phytoplankton species related to 3 groups of diatoms, dinoflagellats and Blue-Green Algae (24 genus and 44 species...

Abiotic Stress Tolerance of Charophyte Green Algae: New Challenges for Omics Techniques

Charophyte green algae are a paraphyletic group of freshwater and terrestrial green algae, comprising the classes of Chlorokybophyceae, Coleochaetophyceae, Klebsormidiophyceae, Zygnematophyceae, Mesostigmatophyceae, and Charo- phyceae. Zygnematophyceae (Conjugating green algae) are considered to be closest algal relatives to land plants (Embryophyta). Therefore, they are ideal model organisms f...
